Re: Can Travis Turner lead the bears to football glory?

Im the feller that started this tiopic. I personally think that Travis will be a great coach and a great leader. JMO but he needs to can the defensive coordinator and beg Bob Coughlin to come help with the D or at the very least mentor Danny dorton to become the D coodinator. The offense at Union ran good once they come to the conclusion that the I is better than the T. The D was set up for speed and well damnit yall know how i think about "speed" football. As I have said many times, Give Travis 5 years and then lets discuss this agian. To the Turner family, I appologize for the comments about your family. My intention was not to stir up malice agaisnt the Turners but mearly see what people thought about If travis could bring back glory to two dead programs. As far as Tom is concerned, my opinion is this, If Tom Turner ever had half the tallent that Phill Robbins had at powell valley Appalachia would have had atleast 10 state championships

Re: Can Travis Turner lead the bears to football glory?

Thats exactly right. Nobody can have anything bad to say about Tom Turner or Travis for that matter. I put this post up because I have faith that Travis will bring back some glory to BSG and Appy. I just feel he has to take controll of his coaching staff and either can a couple or line em out on the fact that he is head coach and things will be done his way. As I have said about Tom time and again, if he had half of Powell Valley's talent He would have won 10 or more state championships.

Re: Can Travis Turner lead the bears to football glory?

    Two things here:

    1) amberT/dan111--as with Tom when he was still alive (rest his soul), being a HS football coach in this area brings your name into many conversations that your friends/family may not like, and could take offense to. That being said--you folks need to learn that there are some people out there who will say some out-of-the-way things about Travis, as they likely did with Tom. Not everyone of these comments are meant personally nor would they be uttered in that person's presence...most of the time, it's people talking noise...and on here, it's a place to anonymously post their opinions. Those opinions are welcome here, whether they're right, wrong, insensitive, affirmative, or otherwise. Take the good with the bad. There will always be haters, and the best thing to do is to shrug them off and go on.

For a while now concerning this subject of Travis and his tenure at Union, there's been PM's written back and forth between some posters (some threatening), that have been less than classy...since that's the active word. This is a local sports forum. Travis is a local sports personality due to being the head coach at Union. His skills will be discussed in both positive and negative lights. May as well get used to it.

    2) The idiot who said what he did about Tom will be dealt with. Stuff like that cannot and will not be acceptable around here.

    Understood. (I think)

But know that it's also best to have the ability to make a coherent sentence when hopping on here and airing a grievance regarding something said about the departed. You will not be taken seriously anywhere if you can't get your point across in a semi-respectable way. Until you can do that...you'll likely continue to get ribbed mercilessly on here...and that's not off limits.

Someone speaking ill of the dead is classless and truly wrong. BUT--others making light of the fact that you have yet to pull together a well-typed phrase that everyone can easily read and understand...I can't help you there.
